MEDICAL ISIGHT UK LTD TECHNOLOGY SHOWCASED IN BBC DOCUMENTARY SERIES
"YOUR BODY UNCOVERED WITH KATE GARRAWAY"
Every Wednesday for six weeks 8.0pm BBC2 - First Episode last night
Medical iSight UK Ltd ('MiS') the medical technology company that gives
surgeons access to critical patient information in real time, in 3D, is
pleased to announce that its imaging expertise has been utilised by the BBC
for a new documentary series.
The first episode of the six-part series was screened last night on BBC 2 at
8.0pm and is called "Your Body Uncovered with Kate Garraway". It can be viewed
on BBC iPlayer.
The series features patients with health issue ranging from Cancer to Covid
19. With the aid of Microsoft's HoloLens headset and MiS technology, patients
are able to see inside their own bodies to better understand their medical
condition and the treatment choices available to them.
MiS' Chief Scientific Officer, Dr Philip Pratt developed the bespoke augmented
reality (AR) software which enabled these ground-breaking medical
consultations and was on set for over 100 hours of filming. In preparation for
this he was responsible for creating the very detailed and accurate 3D models
from each of the twelve original patient CT/MRI scans.
Commenting on the series made by Remarkable Television and commissioned by BBC
Factual, co presenter Dr Guddi Singh said: "As a medical doctor who is
committed to making health care better, it's been incredibly exciting to be
part of this show and to see first-hand, the possibilities opened up by
augmented reality for clinical practice"
Tip of the technology Iceberg
Although the series reveals the advances in medical imaging made possible by
augmented reality and MiS technology, it represents only the early stages of
MiS developmental progress in this area of providing highly informative visual
data for surgeons in real time.
This year will see the development of technology that will guide the tip of a
catheter through the myriad of blood vessels in the brain to remove a blood
clot that will save lives and dramatically improve the quality of life for
many stroke victims. Stroke is the second leading cause of death worldwide and
someone somewhere in the UK suffers a stroke every 5 minutes.
