Technically, Giant falls within the definition of an Investment Company under the Investment Company Act of 1940. However, the Company is not engaged in the business of investing, re-investing or trading of securities and has, therefore, filed for an exemption from the Securities and Exchange Commission so as not to fall under the Investment Act. Giant owns 8% of the total outstanding common shares of Checkers Drive-In Restaurants, Inc. Checkers is a chain of double drive-thru restaurants in the United States. The company is a combination of two similar quick-service restaurant chains, Checkers and Rally's Hamburgers (Rally's), which were merged in August 1999.
