Your membership of ShareSoc and/or SIGnet helped us achieve much in recent months, protecting your interests and benefitting the private investor community. Without the support of Members such as yourself, we could never be as impactful or influential, so we thank you for your continued membership. As a not-for-profit membership society, Member subscriptions fund all our activities.
As we enter a post-Covid world we will take advantage of recently deployed technology, to deliver improved services and benefits to Members and continue driving positive change. Here are some of our recent accomplishments, defending your rights as an individual investor and providing you with invaluable services.
Networking, Education & Investment Opportunities
- Rapid membership growth (>20% p.a.) with over 1,500 paying members and 8,500 in total.
- 2021 – hosted 6 Premium member-only events and new Masterclasses. Saving > £75 on tickets. Masterclasses included ESG, Private Equity and Investing in Asia.
- A multitude of Growth Company Shareholder webinars from a wide spectrum of UK markets, with many more to come in 2022
- Merged with SIGnet, providing even better networking and education opportunities
- Exclusive member briefings from the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) and Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in August and November
- Mutual support relationship with Mello for campaigns, events and promotion
- Launched ShareSoc Investor Academy website, with much more content to come
Campaigning & Lobbying:
- Multiple campaigns; progress with shareholder rights; effective regulation of AIM; faster / tougher FRC and FCA enforcement, which:
- Improves shareholders’ rights when using nominees. Our lobbying positively impacted the Law Commission Report. Still much to do…
- Voting Guidance and Shareholder Engagement: Running a major pilot on FTSE30 companies. Reports have been published for c20 companies. See https://www.sharesoc.org/category/vci/ for more info.
- Woodford campaign’s having significant impact alongside real progress in the legal claim from Leigh Day.
- A myriad of Consultation responses to Government, Regulators and Special Enquiries
- SVS failed: ShareSoc was the only provider of practical support to clients. Solving problems accessing assets. Lobbying the FCA that this never occur again.
- Sirius Minerals shareholders continue to be supported and we are evaluating a potential claim for redress.
- Improved private investor access to share placings, lobbying companies to use the new Primary Bid service as a new norm.
