With all this talk of Russian threats etc I have loaded up since last October on the new defence ETF Future of Defence UCITS ETF USD Acc (LON:NATP) which has done well - I’m thinking of increasing to 20% of my PF & would be interested in others thoughts - no discussions tagged yet on Future of Defence UCITS ETF USD Acc (LON:NATP) . It’s 50% global NATO defence stocks & 50% AI/ Cyber, so you get the tech boost too.

I've dipped my toe into this today as defence requirements are only going one way with MoD exceeding £25bn spend for 22/23 - highest ever unsurprisingly. Looks a well diversified fund.

I always dither about buying into something that has already had a great run.

Most of the major defence stocks have had a very good couple of years since Russia's invasion of Ukraine and my concern would be that whilst there is a fair bit or rearming happening, has much of the upside already been built into the price and we could be in for a bit of base-building for the medium term.

It looks like Russia has got the cushion it wants for its boundaries and both sides are now bogged down for the long-term and I suspect exhaustion has set in. I am no geopolitical expert BTW.

The other risk is that if Trump gets in he may withdraw from NATO and therefore end up not needing to spend as much in Europe thereby offsetting the rest of his global needs/spend.

I have no idea if any of this stacks up (having done no research), but I am not sure I would want to go into a single topic ETF at this moment...........but I am sure I could be proven very wrong.

I will probably be trying to find "the next" growth area rather than hanging onto the coat-tails of the one that might be about to end or at leats become a bit stale.

The world is a pretty big place and seemingly for the first time in decades countries are gearing up for conflict on every continent. It's not all about the US and if they don't spend then their allies will have to do it themselves.

If you look at what's going on in Africa, with 5 military coups in the last couple of years, and of course the middle east there has to be a fear that required defence spending has hardly started. Biggest threat of them all, China, is still biding it's time.
