Established in 1936 and listed on AIM since 2005, FW Thorpe is a holding company comprising businesses which design, manufacture and supply professional lighting systems. With a decentralised structure, each subsidiary specialises in specific market segments, producing advanced lighting solutions ranging from emergency lighting and lighting controls to road safety systems some of which is sold cross-Group.
Business Model
FW Thorpe subsidiaries design their products in-house at their manufacturing sites in Spain, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom while also maintaining a presence in France, Australia, Ireland and the UAE via sales offices marketing its products to new markets.
Revenue is primarily derived from the sale of lighting systems designed and manufactured in-house to customers’ specifications. However the Group also provides services such as surveying, lighting design through to commissioning and after sales customer support through the product lifecycle. Sales from services have been growing steadily in the last 5 years, from £2.4mn in 2019 to £6.1mn in 2024 but this only accounts for 3.5% of Group revenue, although this varies by region.
