I may have missed this, so appreciate it if you can point me in the right direction.

Is there a Chart Signal or Screen that shows shares that have recently broken out of their long-term trading range. These are a common way to find possible share ideas and I would have expected them to be available in Stockopedia. I can see the Golden Cross and Death Cross signals but these aren't the same.

Hopefully I've been looking in the wrong direction.

A gap up means that todays opening price, before any trading took place, was significantly higher than yesterday's closing price. This would happen in the event of a significantly good news release.

Hi monions,

I think you need to be a bit more specific about what kind of break out pattern you are looking to identify and then build a "Your Screen" under the Screens heading in the Stocko menu that filters out the stocks that you want to identify. There are several parameters that you can measure the current closing price against. Stocko is very flexible but it can take a fair bit of tweaking of the different variables to extract the type of stocks you are looking for, The good thing is that once you have the Screen set up it is very easy to update the stock selection.

Are you looking for stocks that are simply at a new 52 week high? Or stocks that are a given percentage above the moving average over a particular period (3m, 6m, 1yr etc)? Are you looking for stocks that are just breaking above recent moving averages (various periods from short to long) or stocks that have risen substantially above a given moving average confirming that they have significantly passed the breaking out point?

As an example, here is a simple Screen filter that you can play around with.

If you click on the link (or copy it into your browser) it will pull up a list of stocks that are:- (a) within 3% of their 52 week high; (b) are above their 130 day moving average (i.e. are above a simple medium term trend line); (c) are not more than 20% above the 130mda (i.e. they have broken out but are not more than 20% beyond the average - so hopefully early enough in the upswing to still make a gain); and (d) market cap above £10m to weed out the tiddlers. This gives 46 stocks that you can then dig into. If you click "edit rules" you can change these parameters and/or add new conditions to get something closer to what you are looking for.

Coming late to the fold :)

I use Darvas Box (52WH b/o's) periodically on my charts (TradingView) translating this to a filter would be great. Tried the link you posted in 2016, but this is broken or no longer available? Any chance you could post a fresh link?
